PRACTICE HANDCHIMES

Practice Handchimes do NOT make a Tone corresponding to the label on the Handchime. They are 3D Printed from Plastic filament and will make a ‘Clicking’ sound.

However, Practice Handchimes can be used alongside Practice Handbells for developing the Handbell and Handchime ringing skills.

Handbell Ringing has a large Physical/Brain Training component. Practice Handbells and Handchimes can help you master the movements and ringing techniques required for Handbell Ringing.

As a handbell Ringer, you will be assigned from 2 to 4 or move Handbells and/or Handchimes. The Practice Handbells and Handchimes allow you to practice managing all of these by allowing you to practice between formal rehearsal sessions.

Managing more than 2 Handbells/Handchimes involves:

  • Switching Handbells between your shoulder and the table.

  • Switching between Handbll(s) and Handchimes

  • Since the sound from Handbells emanates from the rim and the sound from Handchimes from the front end, Handbellsshould be rung in a Vertical Motion and Handchimes in a Horizontal motion.. Thus, it can take some practice to (1) change from Bell to Chime and still ring each in the proper manner.

  • Similarly, Bells and Chimes are damped differently. Bells are damped by bringing them directly back towards your shoulder. Chimes are most efficiently damped by moving them across your body to damp on the opposite shoulder. This does require practice
